A Message from Ed Brewer Councilman Township of Hillside

As
You are aware I am very proud of the services that our municipality
provides for the residents of Hillside. Over the last few months I have
been providing you with information about various departments and
services the town has for you to take advantage of. Over the last few
years in this age of technology there has been a new emphasis on the
need for healthy active lifestyle changes as many of our adults and
children spend more of their time behind a computer keyboard or gaming
system. We must remember that healthy activities like walking are
essential in the quest of a good quality of life. In that vein I wanted
to remind you of programs that are available for our seniors as they
need invigorating activities as well.
The Hillside Senior Citizens Center is a community-based leisure
recreation facility that is alive with activity for the Township’s
older age population. The Senior Citizens Program previously was housed
from 1976 to 1992 at the William H. Bule Community Center.
In 1992, the Senior Citizens Center opened its own doors (at 265
Hollywood Avenue) to a new era of growth and commitment to the
promotion of independence and dignity ideals for all Township Senior
Citizens. The extension of the commitment to services and activities
for the well being of the targeted elderly population is intended,
also, to impact significantly and positively upon families, caregivers,
and the whole community. Senior citizen participants are daily engaged
in a schedule of activities that also reaches out to a special
initiatives, including outreach to the nursing home/institutionalized
and homebound, and reading and “help” projects at Township elementary
schools. For more information about the Hillside Senior Citizens
Program and its activities and services, call: 908- 355-8928 Monday -
Friday from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
