My Prerogative: How To Pick Your College Major
Article By: Michael Vida
Picking a college major is sometimes a stressful task; sometimes it
is changed numerous times. But what should perspective students make
sure before they go into school? Something extremely important is
knowing you can get a job straight out of college. Nothing is worse
than investing hundreds of thousands of dollars into your higher
education and not being able to find a job because your degree is
almost useless. Having a general liking for the type of major is also
important. Why major in biochemistry if you hate science? Look at your
hobbies- maybe there is something you can make a career out of that is
also a major. Of course money always talks, but something you
definitely do not want to Do is be stuck with a major that offers
almost no compensation for all that hard work. You’re also going to
want to think outside the box as much as possible but in a field that
has the potential to grow. If few people have this major but the field
is sure to grow, what can go wrong? Assuming it fits all other matching
criteria for you do not hesitate to choose that as a major. Although
picking a major is absolutely imperative for the future, it is not
irreversible. If you are a fickle person make sure your major is
something generalized which would make switching majors less
complicated. For example, switching from Economics to Finance probably
would not be too terrible; but switching from Psychology to French
would.
