A Tennis Legend

Recently at Hostos Community College, in the Bronx the USTA premiered a documentary highlighting the accomplishments of Pancho Gonzalez. The film had never been seen on the East Coast prior to this event. The Director Danny Haro, fulfilled a yearning desire from the Gonzalez family and his own determination to produce the documentary. The film is available for screenings and anyone interested can contact The Courier Times office for additional information."We believe it is important to highlight the contributions made by all Americans for the general public to better understand our differences and our likeness", said the director.


Color Dominates the Screen in the World of Futubol

I don't know about you, but during the recent World Cup and other major soccer contests throughout the world, I have had the notion to check the color button on my television. Persons of color are in abundance on many of the International teams.

Many of the teams that have been competing have been showing shall we say a bit more color than in the past. For instance it was no surprise to see many Central and South America teams have persons who are of color playing for them. Yet it was a bit more surprising to see the National team of France sporting so much color.

MARION JONES DRUG TEST FOUND TO BE NEGATIVE

With all the hoopla about drugs scandals we at The Courier Times will continue to update on the ever pending results and never ending claims and charges that exist in the world of sports. The latest discussion revolves around super sprinter from the United State Marion Jones. Jones as you may now know was charged earlier this year of testing positive with an A sample of her blood. Subsequently her B test proved to be negative indicates that there may have been a problem with the first testing. The world awaits the final outcome. According to reports World Anti-Doping Agency Chairman Dick Pound has indicated his unease over the result, which came after the triple Olympic champion's A sample had tested positive.

Yankees & Mets Headed Toward the Playoffs

New York the metropolis of sports with maybe the most fanatic fans in the world can cheer loudly as their two major league baseball teams are wrapping up their regular seasons. Both currently are winning their divisions and seem to be a cinch to extend the baseball season for their die hard fans.

Whether you are in the Bronx or in Flushing the "Boy's of Summer" have played their hearts out this year and the fans are salivating at the thought that their could be a Subway series this fall. For as long as anyone can remember the rivalries in the Big Apple have always been fascinating whether it was the old Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants or today's modern rivalry between the Mets & Yankees draw the line in the streets there is no love lost between the fans. October is always a fascinating time when there is baseball in the air in New York. Remember Mr. October himself Reggie Jackson the man who was the straw that stirred the drink. Prep's Thompson commits to Boston College

Will Thompson didn't want to drag out the biggest decision in his life. The St. Peter's Prep senior football captain, who won't turn 17 until during the late stages of the upcoming season, but is far more mature than his chronological age, knew that there were a host of big-time colleges all clamoring for his services.

The litany of interested schools read like the weekly Associated Press Top 20 college football poll. Michigan, Michigan State, West Virginia, Connecticut and Rutgers were all foaming at the mouth, hoping that the 6-2, 240-pound man-child linebacker would come their way.
